When you apply for international work with MSF you do not apply for a specific position. Rather, you apply for a profile that matches your experience and qualifications through a thorough process, and if successful you are validated into the pool of professionals that are available for assignments.
To start the process you will need to complete the online application process and upload your CV.
Your application will be screened by a Human Resources Officer and you will receive a response within two working weeks of MSF receiving your application. Please note that incomplete application will result in delay in the application process.
After receiving the forms and your CV, we shall give careful consideration to your application. We will assess your overall qualifications, experience, and your motivation to work with MSF. If you are then deemed eligible for further follow-up, we shall contact you to arrange a mutually convenient time for a telephone interview.
To ensure you have the required technical skills, technical referents will do an assessment according to the position you are applying for. You will receive all the necessary information as applicable. If you succeed in this step, you will then be invited to a Human Resources interview.
This interview will evaluate your soft skills and behaviour. It lasts approximately 1.5 hour, during which we will also ask you to provide your references. Please remember that responsible behavior is part of our recruitment criteria and will also be verified during reference checks.
After completion of the interview we will ask for candidate references.
If your interview is positive as well as your reference checks, you will be accepted in the pool.
After being formally accepted, you will have your first meeting with your Career Manager to inform you about the process going forward and communicate futher about the matching process.
In addition, all new MSF staff take a preparatory course that provides further insight into the organisation and the work carried out by MSF. Topics covered during this course include humanitarian emergency aid, safety, stress and cross-cultural communication. This allows you to prepare properly for the mission and gives you an idea of what you can expect on the mission in the field.
According to needs, when a position matching your profile and skills becomes open, your career manager will send you a mission offer along with contextual information. After your final acceptance, we will initiate the departure process.
Once a mission is assigned, MSF will also request a medical certificate to ensure that you are fit for work in the mission country. Departure is contingent upon this certificate. Details regarding the medical appointment will be shared with you during the departure process.
